With the relaxation of planning regulations for commercial solar panels, the amount of 50kW projects has increased in the UK, despite small-scale installations suffering from a reduced feed-in tariff.

Because of a change in the stringent regulations surrounding commercial solar panels, the 50kW projects can now go ahead without the need for permission. This has squashed delay times and means schemes previously held back can continue as planned.

Eco Environments say that there are now more businesses investing in solar panels to help them reduce energy bills and become more energy efficient.

Eco Environments’ Commercial Director, Mark Buchanan, says: “We have already noticed a sharp rise in the number of enquiries from businesses since the planning changes came into effect at the start of April.

“A major focus for us is increasing the amount of work we do with commercial customers showing them how a holistic renewable energy strategy can really pay dividends in terms of energy efficiency and financial prudency.”

Like domestic installations, commercial solar panels bring a wealth of benefits to businesses, including:

  • Free electricity for over 25 years, by using a natural energy source
  • Low maintenance and commercial solar panels are often seen as a ‘fit and forget’ technology
  • Reduced carbon emissions, as you’ll be avoiding fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas. This will help the environment by cutting global warming issues

And the sales and marketing director for Eco Environments, David Hunt, said: “More and more businesses are coming to understand how harnessing the right renewable energy solutions can help a business grow and prosper, particularly during these tough economic times and against a backdrop of ever rising energy costs.

“Manufacturing businesses traditionally operate on very tight margins so the slightest spike in the cost of energy usage can wreak havoc on a company. The right renewable energy solution can help them start to take control of their energy costs rather than being vulnerable to fluctuations in the market.”

Commercial solar panels are one of the best investments businesses can make as they’ll be able to save a small fortune on electricity bills, whilst also being environmentally friendly.

Of course, homes can still invest in renewables with domestic solar panels, and despite the cuts to incentives, it’s still a lucrative investment.
