How you can benefit from Renewable Heat Premium Payment
What is the Renewable Heat Premium Payment?
The second phase of the RHPP is set to launch on April 2, 2012, after the success of the scheme last year.
Under the scheme, the Government hopes to attract properties with high-carbon heating systems to replace with renewable technology. These homes are fitted with costly heating systems such as oil boilers and electric fires, so by replacing you’ll cut your energy bills by hundreds of pounds annually.
Reports suggest there are some four million homes in the UK that would be eligible for the Renewable Heat Premium Payment.
For the second stage a further £25 million will be put into the scheme, in an effort to support even more properties in their transition to renewable heat.
- £25 million will be put into the second stage of the RHPP
- Vouchers will be handed out on a first-come first-served basis
Climate Change Minister, Greg Barker, says: ““The new Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme will be bigger and better than the original.
“We’re increasing the budget from £15m to £25m, for the first time we’re including community schemes and there’ll be more social housing schemes that can benefit. Those people who are reliant on expensive oil or electric heating should consider applying to the Premium Payment scheme to cut their fuel bills in the long term.”
How much will I save with the Renewable Heat Premium Payment?
The RHPP aims to provide properties with vouchers for renewable technology, in an effort to help homeowners reduce their bills and lower carbon emissions.
As part of the Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme homeowners will receive:
- £1,250 grant off the cost of a ground source heat pump
- £950 grant off the cost of a biomass boiler
- £850 grant off the cost of an air source heat pump
- £300 grant off the cost of thermal solar panels.
On top of these vouchers, £8m has been set aside for community groups, to encourage renewable uptake.
Remember, renewable heating systems provide FREE heat by harnessing the natural energy. So, however much you’re spending annually on your heating bills is typically what you can save.
When you take into account the amount you’ll receive off the cost of installation (£1,250 in the case of ground source heat pumps), it’s a fantastic opportunity to curb your spending and ease your property away from fuel poverty.
How do I receive the Renewable Heat Premium Payment voucher?
The RHPP continues to be run by the Energy Saving Trust and vouchers are on a first-come first-served basis. Therefore, it’s important to act quickly if you’re interested in renewable heat.
The first step you should take is applying for free quotes from reputable companies in the renewable heat industry. This means you’ll be able to compare quotes, find out more information about the individual products and decide if it’s right for your home.
Apply for multiple quotes to:
- Compare companies and costs
- Find out more about renewable heat
- Work out your annual savings
You can apply for up to four, no obligation quotes using the form at the bottom of this page.
Once you have these quotes in the bag, you can apply directly to the Energy Saving Trust using the following link: www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/RHPP
Energy Saving Trust director, Katie Lawrence, hopes the second phase of the RHPP will be bigger and better than the first.
She said: “Our aim is to empower householders by giving them the right tools and advice to help them reduce both their energy usage and bills.
“Without a doubt, one of the main barriers that prevents people from taking the plunge is the up-front capital cost. The announcement of the second phase of the government’s Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) scheme not only offers homeowners help with the initial costs, but it also provides them with access to heat technologies that can help them to reduce their energy bills, year on year.”
